Bill Belichick believes Bo Nix is ‘pretty close to being game ready’

The Denver Broncos selected Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Bill Belichick loves what he brings to the table. The former New England Patriots head coach covered the draft for The Pat McAfee Show and gave his thoughts on Nix after he was drafted.

“He’s off all the quarterbacks the highest-rated from the pocket,” Belichick said. “I think he’s got a good, arm, but [Oregon’s] system is more possession passing. He has almost a 75 percent completion percentage because a lot of throws are closer to the line of scrimmage.

“He protects the ball well,” Belichick continued. This is another guy that’s played a lot of football. From Auburn to Oregon, he’s had a full career up there. He’s experienced and he’s probably pretty close to being game-ready.”

Bo Nix does not want to ‘just be a draft pick’

Nix was selected No. 12 overall and was the sixth QB taken in the first round. During his introductory press conference, Nix talked about wanting to prove that he’s more than just a first-round pick.

“I don’t want to just be a draft pick,” he said, per the Broncos official website. “I want to be able to show my improvements and show that I can do what [they] picked me to do, and that’s to go out there and help win games [and] do whatever I can to put his team in a better situation.”

Nix also expressed his excitement about playing under head coach Sean Payton. “I grew up watching Drew Brees,” Nix said. “I grew up watching Coach Payton coach. I watched their Super Bowl. I knew the efficient offenses that they had and how well they worked together and honestly, in college, you learn — you’re with so many different coaches — that relationship is so important. It’s one that every quarterback and play caller and head coach need to have together. I’m excited to be around him. I’m excited to learn from him. Everything he tells me is something that I’m probably not going to know, so I’m going to do the best to take it all in and apply it to the field.”

Nix played three seasons at Auburn and two at Oregon. He had a breakout season in 2023, throwing for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and three interceptions. Nix’s production last season led to him being named to the All-Pac 12 First Team and Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.
