WNBA: Angel Reese Sends Beautiful Retirement Message for Candace Parker
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

After 16 years in the league, three-time WNBA champion has announced her retirement from the league. Among those who have sent out their heartfelt messages is Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese.

Parker first entered the league as the Los Angeles Sparks top pick in the 2008 Draft. During her first year in the WNBA, the 6’4″ forward/center dominated right away by leading her team to a meaningful playoff  run. She would eventually become the first player in league history to win both Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season.

It wouldn’t be until eight years later in 2016 when Parker finally led the Sparks to a championship, the first in her career at that point in time. She would win two more rings with the Chicago Sky in 2021  and with the Las Vegas Aces in 2023. By the end of her career, Parker won two MVPs, one Finals MVP, seven All-Star Game appearances, Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year, among others.

For her part, Angel Reese is among those have stood out in college for the past few years. The LSU Tigers star won an NCAA championship in 2023, but was eliminated by Caitlin Clark and Iowa Hawkeyes on their way to the Finals. Shortly after, she was selected by Chicago Sky with the seventh pick in the 2024 Draft.

Chicago Sky Star Angel Reese Drops Beautiful Message for Candace Parker After WNBA Legend’s Retirement

After Parker announced her retirement, NBA legend Magic Johnson shared a beautiful message about what she has done for the sport. Similarly, Reese also sent out a heartwarming post for the WNBA star on her official X account:

Over the course of her 16-year career, Parker averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. She is also the first player in league history to win championships with three different teams in her run as a pro.

Without a doubt, Parker will go down as one of the sport’s best players. And with new stars like Reese about to take their turn in the league, there’ll be no shortage of excitement to look forward to when the WNBA returns next month.
